It is weekend time, my friends. Oh, happy day.
We had an extra boost of happy this week thanks to the fact that we live in Louisville, Kentucky where the Kentucky Derby is run. Thus, the city is in celebration mode all the week long and, thanks to that, when your hubby works for a major Louisville-based company he gets a couple of early sign off days and you are handed an expected long weekend. It's the cherry on top of the most calm week we've had in two months and not to be taken for granted.
There is the loveliest old cemetery in our city that is filled with stories of brave soldiers, faithful patriarchs, and precious young lives. It is a heavy place and an inspiring place, one that always stirs a greater thoughtfulness in me. And in the center of this cemetery is a darling little pond where you can go and feed the ducks and geese. So yesterday, on that 50 degree May day, we took our coffee cups and loaves of bread and spent some time with the cute, and sometimes testy, waddlers that have made their home there. We saw a couple broods of goslings (Little was in love), gave extra attention to one limping duck we called Malcolm, and afterwards, we drove around a bit talking about the legacies we leave behind.
Simple afternoons like that are the sweetest ones to me. The laughs, the conversations, the wandering around Whole Foods getting fresh clams and mussels for homemade clam chowder, the sipping coffee, the simply being together. It prefaced Fridays arrival in the best kind of way.
..........a few of my favorite things this week..........
I made these salted chocolate pecan pie bars as a nod to Derby. they went over quite well.
next on my list of kitchen purchases: this marble pastry board. useful and a perfect photo backdrop. priorities.
my Little in this sleeveless chambray shirt?? heart eyes for days.
I picked up Gwyneth Paltrow's new cookbook It's All Easy when it was on sale at Target this week. so many recipes I'm excited about, and the photography in the book is just dreamy.
this lavender and sage candle made our living space smell so fresh and spring-like last evening.
on the lookout for everyday-ish type dress wear and came across this French Terry Tie Dress.
I read a chapter out of The Meaning of Marriage for my Titus 2 group this past week and oh, those words were good. now I cannot wait to read the book in its entirety.
