It's the beginning of beautiful May and it's also Friday! It's just a grand ol' day. The spring has just been loverly, loverly in our city. My 70 degree, cool breeze, crystal blue sky loving heart has been giddy.
It is Derby weekend this weekend so the city has been abuzz with much excitement as the time draws forth for that great race to be run tomorrow. Derby season is as celebrated as Christmas in this city that houses Churchill Downs. It is held in high esteem, and I really do enjoy seeing all the anticipation that comes with this season and this week in particular.
We feel a little sacrilegious as Louisvillians not to be participating in any Derby parties or even watching the race live this year, but J and I will actually be attending a parenting conference tomorrow. And, you know, I think we will really be glad we chose the conference. ;) Particularly, the session entitled "Confidence in the Face of Strong Willed Children." Goodness gracious, I'm eager to soak up every bit of that talk. Plus, a little getaway time with my guy is always a favorite way to spend a Saturday.
What are you darlings up to this weekend?
In honor of Derby Day, I am sharing a link for Chocolate Bourbon Pecan Pie. The actual "Derby Pie" recipe is a highly guarded secret, which is kinda cool and nostalgic; but, personally, I actually prefer the takes on it that I have tried more than the original Derby Pie itself (so sorry, KY). This recipe is from Damaris Phillips who is KY born and bred, so you can feel legitimately derby-ish when you make it.
For my birthday back in January a sweet friend gifted me with this pretty Monogram Crest Journal from Anthropologie. I think it'd make a lovely mothers day gift.
In the last few months I've purchased a few different tees from JCrew Factory for both J and I and those tees have quickly become our favorite of all the tees. They are wonderfully soft! They also fit better than any other tees we own. This Factory Heathered Washed Tee arrived in the mail for J earlier this week and, my goodness, I love this color on my blue-eyed man. 40%-50% off "wear now styles" online at JCrew Factory, plus an extra 30% off clearance. Your summer closet will thank you.
My darling friend, Liz, sent me this prayer journal last year from Val Marie Paper on Esty. It is my favorite and has the been the best way for me to write down prayer requests, answered prayers, and sweet reminders of Scripture truth all in one place. I love the simplicity of it, but also the thoughtfulness of it. I'd love to get one of the kids prayer journals for AK and one of the gratitude journals, as well; and I love the idea of tucking a marriage field guide journal or a pregnancy journal into gifts for friends in the future.
When AK and I walked into a Target dressing room earlier this week these Earline Wedge Sandals were sitting on the little bench in there. They were my size so I thought, "why not?" and slipped one on. You guys, they were so comfy! These are wedges you could wear for hours. I loved them with the jeans I had on, they'd be a cute and casual way to dress up summer outfits, and I think they'd be great wedges for a beach trip.
So, dear ones, I hope you have the most wonderful weekend this first one in May. I'm thankful for each one of you sharing a bit of your time with me on my little space here. I always love to hear your Friday finds and discoveries, too!
Happy Friday to you all!
