tunes || sovereign over us

This song has been filling our home and our car for the past 2 weeks, ever since my sister told my mom who told me about it. Tears streamed down my face as I first listened to this song. The encouragement of the words could not have been more timely, and, truly, they shall always be timely. I love the honesty of the song -- the honesty that there are tears and sorrow, there's mourning and fear, there's waiting and there's a struggle to trust because we truly don't comprehend. And I love the beautiful replies to the honest struggles that are in the song -- the references to precious verses in Scripture (Jeremiah 29:11, Isaiah 55:8,9, Romans 8:28, Genesis 50:20, Psalm 146:6, 35:27, 145:14) -- the simple, profound, loving truths that the Lord has given us to meditate on, hold to, and remember all our days. This song exalts the unchanging, unfailing, perfectly loving character of our God and His wisdom and perfect plan. Whether the plan He is working in us, through us, or around us, He is always working; and reminding ourselves of the comforting truth that He is SOVEREIGN OVER US should be an unending and resounding reminder that we never cease to remind ourselves us.

SOVEREIGN OVER US

There is strength within the sorrow

There is beauty in our tears

You meet us in our mourning

With a love that casts out fear

You are working in our waiting

You're sanctifying us

When beyond our understanding

Your teaching us to trust

Your plans are still to prosper

You have not forgotten us

You're with us in the fire and the flood

You're faithful forever

Perfect in love

You are sovereign over us

You are wisdom unimagined

Who could understand Your ways

Reigning high above the heavens

Reaching down in endless grace

You're the lifter of the lowly

Compassionate and kind

You surround and You uphold me

And Your promises are my delight

Your plans are still to prosper

You have not forgotten us

You're with us in the fire and the flood

You're faithful forever

Perfect in love

You are sovereign over us

Even what the enemy means for evil

You turn it for our good

You turn it for our good and for Your glory

Even in the valley You are faithful

You're working for our good

You're working for our good and for Your glory

Your plans are still to prosper

You have not forgotten us

You're with us in the fire and the flood

You're faithful forever

Perfect in love

You are sovereign over us

tunes || new again

This song "new again" is a song that was recently put out by the band at  Sojourn,  a local church here in Louisville. Here's their Sojourn Music webpage. Our worship pastor and band sang/played it for the first time at our church yesterday during communion and I was singing it all the rest of the day. It's such a hopeful song! I'm so grateful for a creative God who gifts so many  people with writing and musical abilities, and that we get to glean from their talents and heart by filling our homes, our cars, and our headphones with songs like this. This song is going to be on repeat in our home for a good long while.

NEW AGAIN

words and music by Brooks Ritter & Mike Cosper

When death show his face and bears his teeth

May we with faith run to Calvary

Not one shed tear no strand of grief

Falls to the ground and goes unseen

Death is defeated and Jesus reigns

Tell the world there is hope in His name

He pushed back the darkness, He conquered our sin

Christ will make all things new again

Christ will make all thens new again, new again

Though blinded by trials our lives marked with pain

Shadows surround us but there's hope today

When sorrow runs deep and the night is long

May we find peace in the Savior's song

Death is defeated and Jesus reigns

Tell the world there is hope in HIs name

He pushed back the darkness, He conquered our sin

Christ will make all things new again

Christ will make all things new again, new again

The sun it is dawning it pierces the night

It cuts through the shadows with redemption's light

The fallen will rise, the weak will be strong

Death turns to life in our Savior's arms

Death is defeated and Jesus reigns

Tell the world there is hope in His name

He pushed back the darkness, He conquered our sin

Christ will make all things new again

Christ will make all things new again, new again
